Gerten Basom is an artist situated near Hamilton, Ontario. She studied fine arts at York University and OCAD and received an Honours B.A. in fine arts from McMaster University. Since 1996, she has participated in numerous group shows in public and private art galleries including the Art Gallery of Hamilton, Tom Thompson Art Gallery, Glenhyrst Art Gallery, Woodstock Art Gallery, Peel Art Gallery and Museum Archives, the Mississauga Central Library and the School of the Arts, Lewiston, NY. She has held solo exhibitions in various public and private art venues. Her work can be found in the collection of the City of Hamilton and corporate and private collections in Canada, USA and Germany. Gerten has been a visiting artist at art institutions and acted as a peer assessment juror. She has taught painting at Mohawk College and in private and public workshop settings. Her paintings, collage and printmaking examine the relationship between our ecology and the intimate connections with place.
